Weeks State Park Presents: From Rags to Wood — Evolution of Paper Making in New England

A local history of paper making, starting with Crane Paper Company in western Mass., which built its mills utilizing rags from NYC, and the transition to wood pulp in the latter half of the 19th century, culminating in the largest pulp/paper mills in the eastern United States – Brown Company. Dr. Linda Upham-Bornstein is a teaching lecturer at PSU; the region’s rich history, heritage and culture were the impetus for her pursuit of a Ph.D. in United States history at UNH. Dr. Upham-Bornstein works on northern New Hampshire history and heritage projects in her position as the History, Heritage and Culture Coordinator for the Center for Rural Partnerships.

Weeks State Park summer programs are held on Thursdays at 7pm in the Summit Lodge’s Great Room. Attendance is free and the public is invited to all programs. Call for confirmation of dates and topics.
