waterwheelMorning: Start your Jefferson adventure off with a hearty breakfast (or brunch) at the Water Wheel. With menu items like pancakes so large they take up an entire plate and the “Hungry as a Bear” omelet you will not leave hungry! This morning hotspot has always delighted visitors and locals alike and is worth the wait. Should there be a line, I recommend you use the short wait to browse their gift shop and pick up a few NH trinkets. Insider tip — I love when the visiting two leggers bring me some left over bacon — hint, hint! http://www.waterwheelnh.com/

Midday Adventure: After fueling up for the day, I suggest heading over to visit my four legged friends at Muddy Paw Sled Dog Kennel for a two-hour dog sledding adventure. This introductory experience is perfect for those looking to ease their way into the wonderful world of dog sledding. MuddyPawsBizDogSledWebOn this adventure you can meet and greet my fellow four legged friends, help prepare the sled(s) and embark on a 50-75 minute sled ride. The mushers make scenic stops along the ride so guests can soak in the views and have plenty of photo opportunities. Insider tip — don’t feed the wildlife, uh I mean mushers. http://www.dogslednh.com

Afternoon: Once you’ve handed out all of your leftover bacon and/or dog biscuits I would suggest treating yourself to one of the pawsome spa treatments at the Carlisle Place. It’s the perfect way to warm up after your dog sledding adventure. Insider Tip — although they don’t offer pawdicures, I hear the mushers talk about how much they love the “Death By Chocolate” pedicure which combines “a peppermint oil soak to soothe tired, aching feet then a stimulating chocolate rub for extra smoothness and to top it all off a creamy chocolate butter masque to hydrate and relieve parched, thirsty skin!” http://www.carlisleplace.net/

Evening/Overnight: If you’re looking to extend your adventure, I would recommend the Applebrook Bed & Breakfast, it “is an inviting home with a rich history. It was built in the 1700s and is known to be the home of Granny Stalbird who was Jefferson, New Hampshire’s first female physician.” It also happens to be the perfect place to soak in great views of the surrounding mountains and base your multi-day adventure from. Insider Tip — they also serve a freshly made breakfast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., which may also include bacon, should you have any leftovers. I am only a few minutes away! http://www.applebrook.net/
