ConnCorki: A Homemade Catamaran of Wine Corks Sails the Length of the Connecticut River

Come join Pan van der Laan and Bob Fink, two intrepid sailors, as they navigate their unique craft along the Connecticut River from Pittsburg to the sea. Named ConnCorki after the river they hoped to navigate, the corks that float it, and an homage to Kon-Tiki, the balsa wood raft of Norwegian adventurer Thor Hyerdahl, used to cross the Pacific in 1947. Bob Fink helped Pan Van der Laan build the catamaran. Most of the 65,000 corks came from a wine tasting room at Cheers in Boston, but retired doctor Van der Laan said some patients contributed and helped, too.

All programs are held on Thursdays at 7 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) in the Summit Lodge’s Great Room. Attendance is free and the public is invited to all programs. Call (603) 788-4004 for confirmation of dates and topics.
