Ski with a Naturalist

In conjunction with the Appalachian Mountain Club, Great Glen Trails offers you the chance to really get to know Pinkham Notch, with a FREE tour (trail pass is required). When you ski with a naturalist, you will learn about the flora and fauna that make our corner of the world so special.

You’ll scout for tracks in the snow and learn about the different trees in the Glen. While listening for distinct bird calls, you’ll truly begin to understand how the ecosystem works in Pinkham Notch. Tours are FREE with a trail pass.

AMC Highland Center: Steep, Feature Film

This thrilling documentary explores the history of extreme and Big Mountain Skiing, starting with its roots in 1960s and 1970s North America and Europe, with Bill Briggs’ now famous first descent of the Grand Teton, and progressing through to the current day sport.

8th Annual Nansen- Milan Winter Festival

The 8th Annual Milan-Nansen Winter Festival, January 19-21, includes a Burning of the Greens bonfire, ice skating, and hot cocoa on Friday evening at the Milan Ice Rink.

Saturday features the popular broomball tournament at the Ice Rink; dog sled tours; kids’ activities and vendors, and snowshoeing, cross-country & skate skiing, and sledding on the Nansen Ski Trails. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. visit Nansen’s new warming hut for free cocoa.

Sunday is race day at Milan Hill State Park, with X-C Ski Races, including 14K men’s and women’s races, a 5K race and kids’ race, all followed by an awards ceremony and racers’ lunch. http://skinansen.com/winter-festival/

Intrepid Descent, a film by Erik Osterholm and Zander Hartung, explores Mt. Washington’s Tuckerman Ravine, the mecca of backcountry extreme skiing.
