The Tillotson Center Presents: UNH’s The Little Red Wagon: The Wildlife in My Life

The Little Red Wagon from University of New Hampshire is returning to the Tillotson Center with “The Wildlife in My Life.”  Mom, dad and Jamie are moving to the country! What kind of animals will they encounter on the way? And how will mom and dad cope when they find out their new home is already home for a bunch of other furry and feathery friends? If Jamie has anything to do with it, everyone will learn how to love and live with all the critters that make living in the country interesting and fun! Join Jamie in working out how to teach mom and dad about coexisting with native wildlife!

Admission $3 per person.

Bicknell’s Thrush Tours

Early morning tours to see this rare bird! May 31, June 6 and 9

Bicknell’s Thrush is an extremely rare species with very limited breeding grounds. It is the rarest and most secretive of the breeding thrushes in North America and it is the only bird whose breeding is restricted to the Northeastern part of the continent. They usually breed at higher elevations, normally nesting above 3,000 ft. The unique and harsh climate is just what the birds prefer due to the combination of low vegetation and abundant moisture. The Mt. Washington Auto Road offers you a rare opportunity to view these  obscure birds.

Our Bicknell’s Thrush Guided Tours leave early in the morning before the Mt. Washington Auto Road opens to the general public to insure there is as little additional noise or disturbance as possible. Our success rate at hearing and seeing this elusive thrush is quite good, but with the species in decline due to wintering habitat losses, there can be no guarantee of sightings.

Tours depart from the base of the Auto Road at 6:00am and last approximately 2 hours.

Cost: $50 per person. Advanced reservations required.

Alton Weagle Day

Alton Weagle had a passion for Mt. Washington. To show his passion, he climbed the Mt. Washington Auto Road in a number of unique ways: by car, on foot, walking backwards, blindfolded and finally pushing a wheelbarrow full of sugar…just to name a few. This day honors his spirit and the spirit of all the camels, Segways and even the odd pogo sticks that have been the first up the mountain – think you’re up to it?

We invite you to dream up a “first ascent” of some kind and run the idea by us – you just may get invited to celebrate with us!

Send us an email with your first ascent idea to [email protected]

The Colonial Theatre Presents: Rickie Lee Jones

RESCHEDULED TO SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27

Named as one of the 30 greatest women in rock, Rickie Lee Jones has been hard to classify ever since she came on the scene with the instant classic “Chuck E.’s in Love” in 1979. Jones began her career in the pop realm, but in her 15 albums, she has experimented fearlessly with her sound and persona. She’s performed straight jazz, blues, synth pop, new wave rock, pop covers, trip-hop, gospel, ambitious singer-songwriter music, and more, putting her unique spin on each style. Each new round of music-making activity by Rickie Lee Jones is different. Her live concerts have almost without exception been unforgettable experiences over her more than 30 years of performing. Her artistry is brilliantly underlined with her latest album KICKS which spans two decades (50s–70s) of pop, rock and jazz, presenting her unique and sophisticated interpretations of songs that were pivotal to her musical journey.
