Randy & Brad played their first show together when they were 11 years old and in the 5th grade Talent Show. They played “5 Foot Two” and “Bye Bye Blackbird” with Randy on Sax and Brad on Snare Drum. They won the Talent Show and have been playing in bands together ever since. From the first “horn band” in NH in 1967 called “Train,” then on to the nationally recognized recording act “Oak,” to today’s current “The Voice,” together since 1989.
Now Randy & Brad have chosen to also perform as a Duo playing a wide variety of songs from artists as varied as Elton John, Supertramp, Doobie Brothers, Billy Joel, and Jethro Tull to dance hits by Michael Jackson, Wild Cherry, Earth, Wind and Fire, and the O’Jays to current hits by Bruno Mars and Walking the Moon to real oldies from the 60’s by The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Rasberries, Badfinger, The Foundations, Moody Blues and going even further back to Glenn Miller and Louis Armstrong. Get ready to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at the Colebrook Country Club beginning at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, as the region’s Celtic ensemble gathers in town to celebrate the music of the Emerald Isle.
Islay Mist Ceilidh come to Colebrook bringing in a host of Irish tunes — and then some — with a successive blast of jigs, reels, airs and some familiar tunes to sing along with. The will be hosting this lively St. Patrick’s Day gathering.
Islay Mist Ceilidh includes fiddlers, guitarists, bodhrans, flutes and penny whistle. It brings together musicians from all over northern New Hampshire who at first started out playing Celtic music together for fun. That fun has grown to include numerous gigs at various venues and events; the band plays several times a year at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Highland Center Inn in Crawford Notch, at the Lancaster Fair, and for the past three years has been among the headliners at the annual First Night North New Year’s Eve celebration in St. Johnsbury, Vt. The group recently played at the First Day celebration on New Year’s Day in Colebrook helping launch the town’s 250th anniversary celebration.
Come along and join the fun and don’t forget to wear your green — and join in the singing to some old Irish favorites, including “Danny Boy,” “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” and more. Whether you’re of Irish heritage or just Irish for the day, you will have a great time — and that’s no blarney.

THE NH MAPLE EXPERIENCE AT THE ROCKS HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE CORONA VIRUS.
Steam billows from the sugarhouse, silver-gray buckets hang from sugar maple trees, and the clop-clop of horses’ hooves serves as a soundtrack during maple sugaring season at The Rocks. As the days warm and lengthen toward springtime, the sweet traditions of sugaring are celebrated here.
“We created the New Hampshire Maple Experience to share both the history and the continuing practice of maple sugaring in New England,” said Nigel Manley, longtime manager at The Rocks, which serves as the North Country Conservation and Education Center for the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests.
“This is a hands-on experience, and we encourage participants to learn about the process of turning sap into maple syrup, from identifying sugar maple trees to tapping a tree to collect sap.”
Maple tours will be offered at The Rocks March 14, 21-22, 28-29, and April 4. Participants will enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride through the historic estate, learning to identify different types of trees along the way. They’ll be invited to tap a sugar maple and take a tractor-drawn wagon ride to The Rocks’ own sugarhouse. There, fourth-generation sugar maker Brad Presby will demonstrate the process of boiling gathered sap into syrup. Adjacent to the sugarhouse is an interactive maple museum, where visitors can see how sugaring has evolved over many years. No maple tour would be complete, of course, without a maple syrup tasting, which includes fresh donuts. Maple tours run from 10 – 4. All activities are included in the cost of $15 ($12 for children). The Bretton Woods Nordic Center at the Omni Mount Washington Resort is home to such classic events as the Mount Washington Cup and the Geschmossel; the longest running citizen’s Nordic race in New Hampshire. We invite all Nordic skiers to be part of an epic, classic technique event to benefit the New England Ski Museum.
Staged between the historic Mount Washington Hotel and majestic Mount Washington, the New England Ski Museum’s Bretton Woods Nordic Marathon at Omni Mount Washington Resort has quickly become a North Country winter tradition. This 42-kilometer, classic-format, cross-country ski race showcases one of the largest Nordic systems in the northeast. In the tracks of the famed 1982 US National Championships and such legends as Bill Koch and Tim Caldwell, this race is steeped in history and Nordic skiing tradition. The course layout provides a challenge to experienced racers while making use of terrain that is accessible and enjoyable for skiers of all abilities.
Past winners include Olympians Justin Freeman (2010, 2011) and Dorcas Wonsavge (2009, 2010) and top collegiate racers. Participants range in age from 11 to 83, with a two lap course and rest stations. The Bretton Woods Nordic Marathon is a great event for recreational and competitive skiers alike; there is also an option to ski on an untimed basis.

Join us for this the Sapphire Anniversary of our annual 10k Freestyle (skate ski) Race, which is part of the ZAK Cup Series. Located on the grounds of the historic Omni Mount Washington Resort and the White Mountain National Forest, the Bretton Woods Nordic Center is one of the largest cross country areas in the East. The 100-km trail network crosses open fields, meanders through woods of spruce and fir, passes beaver ponds and mountain streams, and traverses open hardwood stands.

The ICONS exhibition, featuring the work of Marcia Wood Mertinooke and Kristine Lingle, explores the various meanings and roles the word can represent; each artist has her own way of interpreting and expressing the meaning of an icon.
Marcia Wood Mertinooke is an artist living and working in Goffstown, NH. She received her BA in Studio Art from the University of New Hampshire and was a student at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, NY. She was a founding member of the Monastery Artist Collective in Manchester, NH and is a member of the New Hampshire Women’s Caucus for Art. For Marcia, icons honor and elevate what is important to us. By combining the senses of realism with emotional expressionism, each of Marcia’s works are a version of reality interpreted and invented.
Kristine Lingle is a painter, collage artist and art teacher currently working for a fine craft gallery in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. She creates her work in a sunny studio inside a cottage she shares with her husband and two tabby cats. For Kristine, icon paintings strike us because they represent the frontal view of a figure, which show a direct relationship with the viewer and the icon being depicted.
This exhibit opens on Friday, March 6, with a wine and cheese reception, and runs through Tuesday, March 31. The Gallery at WREN is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please call Local Works Marketplace, WREN’s retail market, at (603) 869-3100.
The North Country Chamber of Commerce and four local snowmobile clubs; Swift Diamond Riders, the Canaan Border Riders, Colebrook Ski-Bees and Pittsburg Ridge Runners will host the 2nd Annual GoNorth Snofest, formerly known as the SnoDeo. The event will be on March 6th and 7th from 9am to 4pm. The event will feature indoor and outdoor vendors.
The event will be held at three locations; Coleman State Park, Coleman Estates and the Swift Diamond Riders clubhouse. Again, the event will have free admission and features several new exciting events.

Coleman State Park will host the motorized segment of the event. Snowmobile manufacturers will have their newest sleds on display. With the purchase of a $10.00 demo pass, attendees will able to test drive as many machines as they would like each day. There will also be an antique snowmobile show where the public can vote for their favorite snowmobile. The “People’s Choice Award” will be given out on Saturday afternoon.
The Swift Diamond Riders in conjunction with the New Hampshire Bureau of Trails will host a groomer rodeo, sponsored by Kevin Lassonde Construction, at their club house. The groomer rodeo will allow club members and visitors to check out the newest grooming equipment that is available.
The Coleman Estates property will host non-motorized events. Activities planned are snowshoeing and fat bikes; with more to be added.
Food will be available at all three locations, including at the SDR clubhouse. Local food vendors will also be on site.
Admission to the event will be free and demo passes will be on sale for $10 that allows riders to take as many test drives as they’d like each day. A shuttle service will be available to attendees and allow for travel between locations.
