St. J. Jazz Quintet Presents Old Songs for the New Year

Join us at the Tillotson Center as the St. J. Jazz Quintet presents a concert of Old Songs for the New Year.

St. J. Jazz is based in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom. They have been dedicated to the live performance of dance, swing, classic and traditional jazz styles since 1977.

Admission costs $12, adults and $5, students.

Annual TubaChristmas Concert

The Great North Woods Committee for the Arts (GNWCA) presents the annual TubaChristmas at Trinity United Methodist Church on Bridge Street in Colebrook.  This free public concert has become a beloved tradition in the Colebrook community. The Methodist church is the perfect setting for the glorious sounds of tubas, euphoniums and baritone horns.

Each year, participants come to Colebrook from all around New England and beyond. Several of them play in other TubaChristmas events, but claim Colebrook’s as their favorite. The setting, the hospitality and the spirited audience are all part of their fun. Douglas Nelson of Keene and Colebrook will return to conduct the family friendly program, hosted along with his daughter, Sharon Pearson. It will include many favorite Christmas carols, with several designed for the audience to sing along with. As in recent years, Nelson has also arranged a special feature for a quartet.

While the concert is free, donations of any size are requested to help offset the other costs of this very special event.

Glen Miller Orchestra — “In the Mood”

The Omni Mount Washington Resort is proud to present … “In The Mood” for Christmas, featuring the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. On December 18th, the historic Mount Washington Hotel Grand Ballroom will host the legendary big band in a special holiday event. Enjoy a three-course dinner and prepare to dance the night away as the Glenn Miller Orchestra takes to the stage to perform some of the greatest big band hits of all time!

Christmas Concert on the Steinway with William Ogmundson

William Ögmundson is an award winning and EMMY-nominated composer, classically-trained solo pianist, and is generally acknowledged to be one of the finest pianists in New England.

Join William at the Tillotson Center as he returns to play a variety of originals and seasonal favorites on the Steinway Concert Grand piano. Admission $10/$5 Students.

St. Kieran Arts Center Presents: Gould Academy Chamber Ensemble

The Chamber Ensemble from Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, will present an evening of classical music with a taste of the season!

The Chamber Ensemble, directed by Gould’s very own Edison Quinatoa, is coached by Thomas Mesa through the distance learning partnership between Gould and the Manhattan School of Music. The ensemble, which includes violins, flutes, bassoon and piano, will be performing works from Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, Eduard Grieg and Piazzolla.

Non-member tickets for the event cost $5 for all seats.

The Sweetback Sisters’ Country Christmas Swing-Along Spectacular

This wildly popular show delivers a veritable explosion of yuletide splendor, complete with trivia, prizes, and, of course, all the holiday tunes you know and love. Year-round, the Sweetback Sisters and their band of brothers wow audiences with their precise, family-style harmonies and blazing instrumentals. For this show, the Queens of Christmastime bring their signature mix of modern nostalgia to a wide array of holiday classics and hidden gems that are sure to get even your Scroogiest uncle in a festive spirit. Songbooks and plenty of warm fuzzy feelings provided.

St. Kieran’s Presents: The Turning of the Year — A Holiday Celebration!

Seven times  All-Ireland accordion champion John Whelan teams up with American Roots band Low Lily and Scottish-style fiddler Katie McNally for a spectacular holiday mini-fest at St. Kieran’s! Featuring traditional and original music from Ireland, Scotland, and America, this diverse and energetic show will help usher in the holiday season with a bang. This exclusive show brings the generations together for a fresh new take on roots music from both sides of the pond.

The show is much more than a triple bill— the artists perform separately, all together, and everything-in-between. From the sweet sound of the accordion with lush guitar textures behind it, to a blast of reels with everyone playing together, to an American song sung in three-part harmony, this show is dynamic and full of life. If you enjoy Irish and Scottish music, modern American string band music and harmonious vocals, you will love the Turning of the Year!

Irish Christmas in America at the Rialto

The Great North Woods Committee for the Arts will present a wonderful holiday concert, “Irish Christmas in America,” at the Rialto Theatre in Lancaster.

Produced by Sligo fiddler Oisín Mac Diarmada, the hugely popular “Irish Christmas in America” show features top Irish music, song and dance in an engaging performance rich in humour and boundless energy. The 2017 tour features special guest singer Niamh Farrell, a Sligo vocalist who has toured with UK singer/songwriting star David Gray. Niamh teams up with legendary West Kerry singer Séamus Begley, famous for his charming wit and stunning voice.

This family-friendly performance features Irish ballads, lively instrumental tunes and thrilling Irish dancing, while evocative photographic images provide a backdrop to some of Ireland’s rich historical traditions. Take a memorable glimpse into the enchanting spirit of Christmas, as the finest traditional artists from Ireland bring you on a fun-filled start to the holiday season of 2017.

The Granite State Ringers Christmas Concert

Ring the Season! Sing the Joy! The Granite State Ringers present a wonderful Christmas Concert at the Tillotson Center.

Their mission is “to promote the art of handbell ringing in New Hampshire.” Admission $10/$5 Students.

Islay Mist Ceilidh at AMC Highland Center

The Islay Mist Ceilidh are a group of musicians from northern New Hampshire who love the music of Scotland, Ireland, Cape Breton, and all things Celtic. They offer a lively performance not to be missed!
