The Outside Track — Concert at the Rialto Theatre

The Outside Track is one of the top Celtic acts in the world. Winner of “Best Group” in both the Live Ireland awards and the Tradition In Review awards. Live Ireland called them, “Among the top bands in the world–stunning on every cut.”

The Great North Woods Committee for the Arts will be hosting this award-winning international band at the Rialto Theatre in Lancaster. This will be the third appearance for this popular group in northern New Hampshire under the sponsorship of the GNWCA.

The Outside Track’s marriage of Celtic music, song and footwork has been rapturously received around the world. Hailing from Scotland, Ireland, and Cape Breton, its five members are united by a love of traditional music and a commitment to creating new music on this as a foundation. They blend fiddle, accordion, harp, guitar, flute, whistle, step-dance and vocals with breathtaking vitality.

Tillotson Center Presents: Irish Band Connla

Connla arrives in Colebrook all the way from the Emerald Isle!

Traditional and modern Irish music.

Hailing from the cities of Armagh and Derry, Ciara McCafferty (vocals), Ciaran Carlin (Flute/Whistles), Paul Starrett (Guitar) Emer Mallon (Harp) and Conor Mallon (Uilleann Pipes/Whistles), Connla mesmerizes its audiences with a blend of traditional and modern Irish music.

Labelled as the Hottest New Group out of Northern Ireland (Chicago Irish American News), Connla has been quickly making an impact on the folk/traditional scene.

Since the release of their EP in April 2015, and album “River Waiting” in July 2016 they have received fantastic reviews at home and internationally. They have already gathered a big following in the UK, Ireland, Europe and the USA. Songlines magazine made Connla their “must see act” for the tour of the UK and stated, “A band this young shouldn’t be this good.” Their sensitive and innovative arrangements of traditional and modern folk songs and tunes have helped them create a sound which is very identifiable as Connla.

Rockin’ the Park Concert with The Barnyard Incident

The Rockin’ the Park concert series creates a fun, festival-like event to bring people of all ages together in Centennial Park in Lancaster as a celebration of local music, local food and community. Food is available for purchase; rain location will be the Lancaster Town Hall.

The Barnyard Incident

Featuring the versatile vocal range of Deb Sullivan as well as solid rhythm and polished harmonies, the Bethlehem-based 4-piece acoustic band which arose from the ashes of the original “Incident,” wraps its eclectic selection of tunes around the talents of seasoned musical veterans of a wide variety of styles.

Deb on lead vocals and percussion, Perry Williams thumping the upright bass, Barry Moore picking his array of dobro, mandolin, and guitar as well as blowing some harp, James Sullivan playing fiddle and guitar, and everyone singing. Expect music from alt country to Bluegrass to Celtic to blues, covering the likes of the Be Good Tanyas, the Steel Drivers, Bonnie Raitt, and Doc Watson, along with band originals.
 

 

Medallion Opera House Presents: Jordan TW Trio

Putting a fresh spin on traditional Irish music, the Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki Trio delivers and dynamic show full of foot-stompin’ fiddle tunes and classic sing-alongs. Fiddler Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki is joined by fellow New Hampshire natives Matt Jensen on guitar and Chris Noyes on upright bass. Their shows blend traditional Celtic music with their own original material, drawing on multiple genres to produce a unique sound. In 2015 they released their first record as a trio, Return To The Castle, which is an instrumental mix of old fiddle tunes and new compositions from various members of the band.

St. Patrick’s Day Concert with Islay Mist Ceilidh

Get ready to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in grand style at the Colebrook Country Club, as the region’s largest Celtic ensemble gathers in town to celebrate the music of the Emerald Isle.

That’s the night that Islay Mist Ceilidh comes to Colebrook bringing in a host of Irish tunes — and then some — with a successive blast of jigs, reels, airs and some familiar tunes to sing along with.

Islay Mist Ceilidh is a group of musicians from all over northern New Hampshire who first started out playing Celtic music for fun. That fun has grown to include numerous gigs at various venues and events; the band plays several times a year at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Highland Center Inn in Crawford Notch, at the Lancaster Fair, and for the past three years has been among the headliners at the annual First Night-North New Year’s Eve celebration in St. Johnsbury, Vt.

Islay Mist Ceilidh includes fiddlers, guitarists, twin bodhrans, flutes, penny whistle, and cello. The group recently recorded its first CD, which will be available for purchase at the show.

Come and join the fun and don’t forget to wear your green — and join in the singing to some old Irish favorites, including “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling,” “Danny Boy” and “Irish Lullaby.” Whether you’re of Irish heritage or just Irish for the day, you will have a great time — and that’s no blarney.

St. Kieran’s Presents: The Turning of the Year — A Holiday Celebration!

Seven times  All-Ireland accordion champion John Whelan teams up with American Roots band Low Lily and Scottish-style fiddler Katie McNally for a spectacular holiday mini-fest at St. Kieran’s! Featuring traditional and original music from Ireland, Scotland, and America, this diverse and energetic show will help usher in the holiday season with a bang. This exclusive show brings the generations together for a fresh new take on roots music from both sides of the pond.

The show is much more than a triple bill— the artists perform separately, all together, and everything-in-between. From the sweet sound of the accordion with lush guitar textures behind it, to a blast of reels with everyone playing together, to an American song sung in three-part harmony, this show is dynamic and full of life. If you enjoy Irish and Scottish music, modern American string band music and harmonious vocals, you will love the Turning of the Year!

Le Vent du Nord at St. Kieran Arts Center

New to the arts center — and part of the Francofest ’17 weekend celebration — is the highly acclaimed quintet, Le Vent du Nord. The group’s vast repertoire draws from both traditional sources and original compositions, while enhancing its hard-driving soulful music (rooted in the Celtic diaspora) with a broad range of global influences.

Featuring button accordion, bouzouki, guitar and fiddle, the band’s sound is defined by the hurdy-gurdy, which adds an earthy, rough-hewn flavor to even the most buoyant dance tunes.” — Boston Herald

Since its inception in August 2002, Le Vent du Nord has enjoyed meteoric success, performing well over 1,600 concerts over 5 continents and racking up several prestigious awards, including a Grand Prix du Disque Charles Cros, two Junos (Canada’s Grammys), a Félix at ADISQ, a Canadian Folk Music Award, and “Artist of the Year” at the North American Folk Alliance Annual Gala.

The group exhibits great finesse and flexibility, appearing regularly on Canadian, American, French, and UK television and radio, and participating in a wide variety of special musical projects. They’ve collaborated and performed with a diverse range of artists including: Harry Manx, Väsen, Dervish, The Chieftains, Breton musical pioneer Yann-Fañch Kemener, Québecois roots legend and master storyteller Michel Faubert, the Scottish folk band Breabach, singer Julie Fowlis, and the trans-Mediterranean ensemble Constantinople.

Not content with standard approaches to tradition, Le Vent du Nord has also created a symphonic concert that, according to Voir Montreal, “puts all traditional folk naysayers to shame.”

Scotland’s cultural history comes to life in living history encampments. Explore the clan village and admire the tartans and crafts. Scottish and Celtic performers will be playing traditional and modern music, ranging from traditional ballads to tribal beats and bagpipe rock. Children can participate in the Festival Youth Program, which features games (including children’s caber tossing), crafts,  storytelling, and more.
