New Hampshire’s North Country has a long and proud history as a cherished destination for hunting and fishing. Vast open areas of land make for an ideal setting. The region is home to clean rivers and streams as well as the Connecticut Lakes. Hunters will cherish pristine hunting lands filled with a variety of game and birds. The region’s lodging, dining and retail properties have catered to guests for decades ensuring you will be rested and ready to make the most of your trip. Both fishing and hunting licenses are required and can be obtained locally.

Fishermen from around the world travel to fish the waters of Northern New Hampshire, with trout, salmon, bass, pike, perch and pickerel just waiting to be caught in our many pristine lakes, streams and rivers. The region boasts one of the most exceptional fishing spots in all of New England. Known as the “Trophy Stretch,” the 2.5 miles of the Connecticut River in Pittsburg, from First Connecticut Lake to Lake Francis, delivers excellent trout and salmon fishing and is considered a fly fisherman’s paradise. Fishermen flock to Pittsburg from around the world for the twice a year landlocked salmon season, in the middle of May around Mother’s Day and again in the last week of September and first week of October.  Also consider trying your luck at Moose Pond, Big Bog Brook, Terrill Pond, Boundary Pond, Middle Pond and Round Pond.
Many anglers head for the Androscoggin River to fish all along its length, from Errol down into Gorham.  Fisherman will find brook, brown or rainbow trout, salmon, and small mouth bass.  The confluence of the John’s River in Dalton with the Connecticut River is an overlooked fishing spot. Another fishing hole in southern Coös County where you might hook a pike is Martin Meadow Pond, off Route 3 in Lancaster. Dreaming of warm water fish like bass, perch and eastern chain pickerel? Try Forest Lake in Dalton or Burns Pond in Whitefield, both off Route 116.

The region is also famed for its hunting due to the vast open land that is home to deer, moose, game birds, black bear, wild turkeys, waterfowl and more! The region is filled with properties that cater to hunters. Hunting season is focused around the fall and winter months. Many guides offer services in the region as well.
