Holiday Season Begins on a Festive Note with Parade of Lights and Fireworks

Berlin kicks off the Holiday Season in style with its annual Parade of Lights along Main Street on Friday, November 23. The Downtown Beautification Committee will have worked its magic to light up the downtown and dress it in holiday finery for this festive occasion. Add a parade, complete with floats decorated with lights, and Santa and Mrs. Claus, and the stage is set for an enchanting evening.

Now in its 21st year, the Parade of Lights is expected to attract around 2,000 people. The parade begins at 7 p.m. on Glen Avenue by the Gazebo, and proceeds up Main Street to City Hall, where Santa will be dropped off to visit in the auditorium with all the youngsters. Kids, it’s time to get your Wish List started!

Downtown stores, all decked out for the holidays, will be open featuring Black Friday specials and plenty of merchandise to make your Berlin shopping experience unique and enjoyable. Theatre North actors are expected to provide entertainment prior to the parade with live mannequins in the storefront windows.

Come early to browse all the festive displays and sales, enjoy the live mannequins and secure your piece of sidewalk so you don’t miss any of the floats — or Santa Claus — as they go by! The parade culminates with a spectacular array of fireworks lighting up the winter sky.

Annual Christmas Ornament

Don’t go home without picking up this year’s Christmas Ornament, a perfect memento of your Parade of Lights visit. Designed by the Berlin Main Street Program, each year’s Christmas Ornament features a historic building or place in the community. The 2012 ornament highlights the 100th anniversary of the Brown Company’s historic barns and the Arabian horses that were housed in the barns from 1912 to 1933. Ornaments are $9.95 each and can be purchased at the Berlin Main Street office and at participating downtown businesses. For additional information, please call (603) 752-6246.
