There is joyful noise at the head of a trail that is the grand kingdom of a New Hampshire Grand sled dog adventure. The sleek and beautiful dogs are eager to get in front of the sled and simply do what they have been born to do.
They are ready to run.
A New Hampshire Grand sled dog adventure is a perfect way to see the quiet trails and wide open fields of the region and two outfits - Muddy Paw Sled Dog Kennel and White Mountain Sled Dog Adventures - offer a variety of experiences, even getting to mush the team yourself.
White Mountain Sled Dog Adventures is based out of the Mountain View Grand in Whitefield, from which the dog teams take their passengers through the woods and along a couple of streams and rivers. Muddy Paw Sled Dog Kennel offers rides at The Rocks Estate in Bethlehem and at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods. Experienced mushers drive, while passengers are snug in the sled. When the musher gives the word to the team, you are off and running.
Dog lovers will appreciate the strength and grace of the team that is so merrily making its way over the snow-covered trail. Each member of the team has its own quirky personality and you just may find yourself with one eye on the cheerful dogs and the other watching the scenery. That scenery can range from passing under a canopy of snow-covered trees that echo only silence and the shush of the sled on the trail, to a panorama of the Presidential Range that wraps itself around a wide open field.
Also note that sled dog rides are no longer just a winter sport. Muddy Paws will be offering "rolling adventures" and "rolling sled dog clinics" from spring to fall at the Balsams Grand Resort Hotel.
Whatever the season, at the end of your sled dog adventure, be sure to give a pat to each dog in thanks for the time of your life.
